Maternity Photo Shoot

Maternity photo shoots are a popular way to capture the beauty and essence of pregnancy. It’s a memorable experience that many women cherish for a lifetime. In this blog, we’ll discuss the process of a maternity photo shoot, including what to expect, how to prepare, and some tips for capturing the perfect shot.

What to Expect

A maternity photo shoot typically takes place between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. This is when the belly is large enough to show off the pregnancy but not so large that the mother feels uncomfortable. Shoots takes place in our studio on George Street in Aberdeen city centre.

During the photo shoot, the mother-to-be will be the main focus. The photographer will take various shots of her alone, with her partner, and with any older children. The goal is to capture the beauty and essence of pregnancy, so the mother will be encouraged to wear clothing that accentuates her belly bump.

How to Prepare

Preparing for a maternity session is similar to preparing for any other photo shoot. The mother-to-be should schedule the shoot in advance and choose a photographer that she feels comfortable with. She should also discuss any ideas or preferences she has for the shoot, such as clothing and props.

In terms of clothing, we have a wide range of gowns & fabrics which of course you are welcome to use but if you would like to bring your own outfits you should choose something that is comfortable and flattering. Loose-fitting dresses or shirts that hug the belly bump are popular choices, jeans which you wore pre pregnancy, now open at the hips with a lovely white shirt look fantastic. If you want to rock it up a leather jacket and boots is a great look, and you can of course dare to bare & do a few nude shots as well! We aim to do three sets of images for you so you will have plenty to choose from.

We highly recommend adding on a hair & make up package to your session as well to make the most of this amazing experience – please ask us about this when you book. Other things to consider include getting a fresh haircut, a facial, and/or a manicure. These small details can make a big difference in the final photos.

Tips for Capturing the Perfect Shot

Capturing the perfect shot during a maternity photo shoot can be challenging, but with the right tips and tricks, it’s always possible. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

* Experiment with different poses and angles. The mother-to-be can sit, stand, or even lie down for some shots.
* Incorporate props that are meaningful or fun. This could be a baby blanket, a stuffed animal, or even a sign that says “Baby on Board.”
* Have fun and be yourself! The best photos are often the ones that are authentic and natural.

A maternity photo shoot is a special experience that every mother-to-be should consider. It’s a chance to capture the beauty and essence of pregnancy and create memories that will last a lifetime. By preparing in advance, choosing the right photographer, and following some simple tips, you can capture the perfect shot and cherish it for years to come.
